FIGURES OF SPEECH IN FASHION: PROSOPOPEIA

From the Greek prosopon, “face” and poiein, “to do”, a classical figure of speech, in which the speaker or writer communicates by speaking as a dead person or as someone absent, or even through abstract and inanimate objects, as if they were real people.



In this case, the naked woman in the image, positioned between young men sporting a patriotic 19th century style, personifies Freedom, for which they fight, live and die.


Japanese Artist Fumie Sasabuchi reworks the pages of fashion magazines and deconstructs the perception of a perfect physique and plays a lot with the subject of death and his prosopopeia.
